Cool Beach Things

This website is for families who love beach holidays and like to have fun in the water. (Actually it's for anyone who wants to buy something from us, but let's skim over that, for now.) We've gathered together some things in this section that we enjoy, and hope that you will too. Delta 6ft Junior Surfboard Everybody goes bodyboarding. It's easy, and it's like swimming with a float. But all of us who have kids who bodyboard have wondered how we can introduce them to 'real' surfing where you get to stand on your board. This is how! This is a real surfboard for kids- a 'soft' board as recommended by the British Surfing Association for beginners. A few years ago, you wouldn't be able to buy a brand new surfboard for less than £200, but this board is available for less than a couple of computer games! The seven year old in the photo is riding his first wave, but the board will suit beginners up to small teens- as a guide, anyone who fits our junior wetsuits. Bigger riders will be able to use it if they're more experienced. The reason for the size advice is that beginners benefit from having a board large enough to fully support their weight, so they can stand up even if the board is moving relatively slowly in small waves. Surfboards moving fast enough to 'plane' like a speedboat can support much heavier weights, which is why expert surfers use much smaller boards than beginners. 'Sports sandals' can be treacherous, because your feet can slide sideways onto sharp or abrasive surfaces. We like shoes rather than boots because they're easy to put on and take off, and they don't trap a bucketful of water. These are the best we've found, and are made from high quality neoprene with well reinforced toes and heels, and a tough, grippy sole. A velcro ankle strap keeps them on your feet. Snorkelling These are quality snorkelling sets made by Voit- a company with 75 years' experience in diving equipment. Safety First! Always accompany children on snorkelling activities, and make sure they receive proper swimming and snorkelling training (many local swimming pools now run snorkelling courses) before going to the beach. The 'Starfish' set comes with swim fins for children's shoe sizes approximately 11-1; we will be stocking fins for all sizes soon. Not your free-with-breakfast-cereal flying disc, but the full sized original Frisbee made by the Wham-O company. With a correctly weighted rim and aerodynamic shape the Frisbee spins for longer and travels further. It comes with full instructions for perfecting your technique and great ideas for games. Rash Vest If your child has sensitive skin, or if they're going to be body boarding all day, a lycra 'rash vest' worn under a wetsuit will help to prevent chafing and improve insulation. Worn without a wetsuit it protects against the sun whilst messing around on the beach. Sizing is as for the wetsuits.
